Notice of our next walk – a circular to Cwm Penamnen, Dolwyddelan, Wednesday, June 17, 2026

This month we will hopefully be able to do the following walk which we had to cancel in April due to adverse weather conditions.

We have arranged a circular walk in Dolwyddelan, a beautiful village on the A470 between Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Our walk is just over 4.5 miles long and we will start and finish in the Dolwyddelan Railway Station car park (SH 7373 5217).

We will start walking along a Roman Road which now has a good tarmac surface.

There is a pleasant picnic site by Afon Cwm Penamnen where we can stop for lunch.

Most of the remaining route will be on good forestry roads but there is a short section which could be a little muddy so strong walking shoes or boots are essential and waterproof clothing is also advised.

As well as the usual photos, there will also be some drone filming this month.

Leading the walk will be National Park Warden Ioan Davies.

Please note that this walk is slightly more challenging than recent walks especially the first part and that our coach will be leaving at the slightly earlier time of 10:15am and not the usual time of 10:30am.

There are toilets at the beginning and end of the walk.

The NWSB are providing us with a coach which will leave the NWSB Bangor High Street offices at 10:15am with a pick up at the bus stop opposite the entrance to the Bethesda Football Ground at 10:30am; arriving at Dolwyddelan Station Car Park at around 11:15am to start our walk at 11:30am.

For those wishing to drive to Bethesda, there is free parking for Blue Badge holders at the football ground's car park.

We should be back in the railway station car park for the bus to pick us up at 15:00pm for our return journey, getting us back to Bangor around 16:00pm.

For anyone preferring to come from Llandudno Junction there is a train scheduled to leave at 10:25am, arriving at Dolwyddelan at 11:06am with a return journey leaving Dolwyddelan at 14:54pm, arriving in Llandudno Junction at 15:41pm.

Can you please let Bethan Sage Williams know by the latest at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 10 whether you are going to join us as we need to book the necessary sized coach for the journey.

Note: Ben Stammers, who led last month's walk has accidently picked up somebody else's clip-on sunglasses. They are in a black case, if they are yours, I can drop them in with Bethan at the Society for you to pick up on the morning of our walk.

Also, if you didn't get to buy tickets (£3 each) for the entertainment night that one of our members Walter Richards has arranged in the Caernarfon Football Club on Friday, June 26, they can be purchased on the walk or at the N.W.S.B. offices. The proceeds will go towards the cost of our coach hire for our monthly trips.

I'm very much looking forward to your company on what has been one of our favourite walks in recent years.
