Notice of our next walk to Llyn Llydaw near Yr Wyddfa
For our walk this month, Wednesday, June 18, we will take one of the popular tracks that lead up to Yr Wyddfa.
We will meet at the car park at Pen-y-Pass where the Miners Track starts leading up to one of the deepest lakes in Eryri, Llyn Llydaw, a distance of just over 2 miles.
We will spend some time by the lake where we can have our lunch break before descending the path back to the car park.
There will be toilets situated in the car park at the beginning and end of the walk.
Llyn Llydaw is situated at an altitude of 1,430ft (436m) and is just over a mile long and about a quarter of a mile width and at its deepest is 192 feet deep. It is believed to be Wales’s coldest lake.
As the track gradually elevates up to the lake, there are parts that get slightly steeper but with care and taking our time we should encounter little problem negotiating.
So, it's essential that suitable footwear is worn as well as suitable clothing for the temperature at altitude can be lower than when we set off.
The Cymdeithas will provide us with transport.
Dilwyn's Coaches will leave Bangor at 10:30 picking up at Morrisons, Caernarfon at around 10:50 before making its way through Llanberis and up to Pen-y-Pass where we intend setting off on the walk at 11:30 with our return journey departing Pen-y-Pass at 15:00.
If anybody intends travelling by car to Pen-y-Pass, we can reserve no more than 2 disabled bays as long as you have a ‘Blue Badge’.
We would appreciate if you could let Bethan Williams at the Society’s office know if you intend to join us by no later than Friday, June 13 so we can arrange the necessary transport.
Very much looking forward to your company again this month.
