A lovely walk to Llanddwyn and Newborough forest
22 walkers came on our latest beautiful walk to Llanddwyn beach.
After welcoming some new faces to the group, we started the journey from a car park just outside the village of Newborough towards Malltraeth.
Newborough Warren is one of the largest and most beautiful dune systems in Britain, and in 1955 Newborough Warren and Ynys Llanddwyn were the first coastal areas in Wales to be designated as a National Nature Reserve.
We followed the forest track down to the beach which was just over two miles on a solid surface.
The sun was shining intermittently as we chatted until we reached the beach for lunch.
After lunch we returned the same way, marvelling at the Corsica wood forest planted to establish the sand dunes.
We then walked along Pen Cob linking Niwbwrch and Malltraeth, smelling heather flowers before finishing the walk at the Joiners Arms for refreshments.
This walk was a little longer than usual, at about 7 miles.
The bus was waiting for us at the pub for the return to Bangor.
Everyone is now looking forward to the next walk which will take place on the third Wednesday in May.
