Are you thinking of going on holiday?
Blind comedian Chris McCausland has shared his views in a TV series - The Wonders of the World I Can't See - which aired in 2023.
The series is still available to stream on Channel 4, Netflix and Apple.
In the programmes Chris asks what the purpose is for him to go on holiday when he is blind.
He visits the Parthenon in Athens with Harry Hill; the Coliseum in Rome with Tom Allen; swims in the Red sea and visits Petra in Jordan with Guz Kahn and travels by boat near the Niagra Falls with Liza Tarbuck.
In Rome Chris asks Tom: "What's the point of us coming here? Could we have sat on the sofa at home? I could have ordered pizza!"
The programme makes the viewer think about sight loss. It demonstrates some of the common mistakes that people make in guiding and describing things and dispels some of the myths around sight loss.
In the first episode viewers gained an appreciation of how much nonverbal communication we use every day that can be easily missed.
Harry Hill was moving his arm to describe the motion of a dolphin and. of course, Chris pointed out that he couldn’t see the hand gestures.
The series really makes people think about how to communicate effectively.
Now the North Wales Society of the Blind wants to ask our members if visual impairment is a barrier to going on holiday?
We're keen to share your advice on what to do and what not to do when preparing to go on holiday and during your holidays.
Also, your favourite holidays, the best places to go; your worst holidays and the places to avoid. The holiday could be in Wales, Europe or anywhere in the world. We’d love to hear from you.
Send your videos, photographs and words sharing your experiences and advice to us via email or WeTransfer to hywel@nwsb.org.uk.
We look forward to hearing from you.
