Blind man is delighted with new flowerpot after previous one was stolen

A blind man is delighted after getting a new plant pot to replace one he’d uniquely decorated himself that was stolen.

Alan Davies from Colwyn Bay was very happy after he decorated a plant pot in a session organised by the North Wales Society of the Blind in April.

Alan said: “On nice, warm days I would take the pot and its Gladiolas and leave it outside the house and bring it back in when it cooled down at night.

“I'm blind and I found it by touching with my fingers.

"I had hidden it to prevent the birds (pigeons) from getting it.

“But one day I couldn't touch it and I knew straight away that it was gone.”

"Of course I was very disappointed. Nobody likes to have their potted plant stolen.

“I don't have a garden, but I like gardening. A neighbor found the empty flower pot not far away, but the gladiolas were gone.

"It must be very nasty people who steal things like this.”

Alan told Bethan Williams of the North Wales Society of the Blind and Polly Leavers of the North Wales Society of the Blind Social Club in Colwyn Bay about what happened.

They shared Alan’s story with the artist Lydia Fernandez-Arias and she agreed to do a one-to-one session last month with Alan to create a brand new pot for a new plant.

Alan became blind 10 years ago after working in a number of different jobs including with the Post Office, offices, hotels and a foundry.

Alan said: "I'm delighted that I've got another flower pot. The first one had started to grow well before it was stolen. Lydia has been very good in finding me another plant which is a Lisianthus this time."
