Christmas dinner a great success for walking club

Over 30 members of the North Wales Society of the Blind’s Clwb cerdded Eryri walking club enjoyed our annual Christmas dinner today (04/12/24).

They travelled from across Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy to Clwb Rygbi Bethesda to celebrate another year of walking with the club.

The club is open to anyone living with sight loss.

It offers an opportunity to regain independence and tread different paths in the company of new friends.

There are great volunteers who can hold a conversation or offer a helping hand in guiding along the trails.

The tours take place on the third Wednesday of every month of the year and there is a bus to transport walkers and their guide dogs from our Bangor office to start the journey and back.

After the wonderful dinner, the Society's chief executive, Steven Thomas, thanked Clwb Rygbi Bethesda’s commercial manager, Wayne Eccles, and his team for preparing a feast for all.

He also thanked the Walking Club's organisers Mark and Elaine Roberts and Kevin and Shelagh Phillips for their work and Dilwyn Roberts for driving the bus.

Steven added that he wanted to thank Bangor Soroptomists for a contribution of £500 towards the club's costs. The money was presented on behalf of the Soroptomists by Olga Evison.

The raffle was a great success with a number of winners. Among them was Peter Evison who was also celebrating his birthday.

One of the organisers of the walks, Mark Roberts, said everyone was really looking forward to take part in more walks in the new year.

He also appealed to anyone who would like to mention new and suitable destinations to contact him through the Society.
