Eryri Walking Club
Great Orme Marine Drive Walk
17th January 2024
We are starting the new year with a walk along Marine Drive round Llandudno’s Great Orme. The walk is 5 miles and on quite well maintained pavements by the side of the very quiet toll road, there is however a climb of just over 500 feet. We will take our time and should be able to burn off a few pounds that we might have gained over Christmas.
Our walk will start by the paddling pool on Llandudno West shore where there are some public conveniences. There is a small café half way round the walk with a public picnic site near-by.
We will finish our walk by the Palladium (Wetherspoons) where we can have a toilet break and maybe something to eat.
The paved surfaces are quite good but there are bound to be some puddles so strong walking shoes or boots are essential and waterproof clothing is also advised as the headland is quite exposed to the Irish Sea.
The NWSB are providing us with a coach which will leave the NWSB Bangor High Street offices at 10:30 drop us off on the West shore to start our walk at about 11:15. The coach will pick us up in Llandudno at about 15:15 hours to get us back to Bangor for about 16:00 hours.
Don’t forget your packed lunch and drinks.
We will postpone the trip in the event of bad weather - If we need to make a decision to cancel, we will let you know by email and text by 8.am on the day of the walk. Responding to this email could you include a mobile number where we can send text messages please.
It is important that if you intend joining us then you let Bethan know as soon as possible so we can organise the appropriate coach.
1. Will you be joining us on the walk?
2. Is there anyone coming with you?
3. Do you need a sighted guide volunteer?
4. Mobile phone number.
5. Where will you be meeting the group?
We are now planning a programme for 2024 so if you have any ideas about new routes or perhaps a personal favourite walk then please let us know. We are more than happy to join a couple of volunteers to explore any possible route suggestions.
