ERYRI WALKING CLUB - RHYD DDU CIRCULAR WALK

18th October 2023

The summer holidays are now over and we are looking to do a circular walk around Rhyd Ddu in the heart of Snowdonia National Park.  The walk is just over 4 miles long but will be more of a challenge than our recent walks.  We should be out for about three and a half hours including our usual half hour lunch stop.

Our walk will start in the Rhyd Ddu station car park and will follow the first mile up the Snowdon path to a height of just over 1,000 feet above sea level, a climb of around 400 feet from Rhyd Ddu.

After our lunch break we will make our way down the newly improved Beddgelert path to the edge of Beddgelert Forest before returning to Rhyd Ddu via Llyn Y Gadar.

Whilst the paths are all well-defined there are some uneven sections which can be a little bit slippery following any rain so strong walking shoes or boots are essential and waterproof clothing is also advised as the mountain weather can be less predictable.

NWSB are providing us with a coach which will leave the NWSB Bangor High Street offices at 10:15 and pick up at Caernarfon Morrison’s Bus Stop lay-by opposite the Alexandria at 10:40 please note the change from our usual pick up point.

We should arrive at Rhyd Ddu station car park at around 11:10 where there are public toilets and we should be able to start our walk at 11:30.

We will complete our walk in Rhyd Ddu car park in time for the coach to pick us up at 15:00 hours for our return journey.  We expect to get back in Caernarfon for around 15:30 and in Bangor at around 16:00 hours.

Don’t forget your packed lunch and drinks.

We will postpone the trip in the event of bad weather - If we need to make a decision to cancel, we will let you know by email and text by 8.am on the day of the walk. Responding to this email could you include a mobile number where we can send text messages please.

It is important that if you intend joining us then you let Bethan know (bethan@nwsb.org.uk) as soon as possible so we can organise the appropriate coach.
