'Explosion' of a new play about the lives of blind and disabled young people

Audiences will laugh, be horrified and motivated to discuss the lives of blind and disabled young people thanks to a new play.

Byth Bythoedd Amen was written by Mared Jarman.

Mared herself lives with a sight loss condition called Stargardt.

She acts the lead role of Lottie in the play described as "civic, funny and dark."

Actor and TV presenter Paul Davies acts the part of Bennie.

The voices and stories of disabled people are at the heart of the production.

Bilingual captions will be available at each performance, as well as audio description through the medium of Welsh presented by Eilir Gwyn.

An English synopsis can also be provided in advance.

Eilir will also lead touch tours before each performance, to give blind and sight loss attendees the opportunity to explore the set, props and costumes.

There will be a touch tour before each show at 18:30.

Contact the relevant centre to book a place on the touch tour.

Music is by Eadyth Crawford.

Theatr Cymru's artistic director Steffan Donnelly said: "This is an explosive new play by Mared Jarman, which challenges society while telling a powerful and heartfelt story about love, loss and finding your way.

“There’s laughter, sadness and hope as the characters wander the streets of Cardiff. Byth Bythoedd Amen is a milestone in Welsh-language theatre as a play from a disabled perspective with a disabled cast, celebrating that community and confronting ableism in our Society."

The show will tour Wales including Rhosllannerchrugog, Bangor and Caernarfon.

Byth Bythoedd Amen has an age guidance of 16+

There is a warning that the play contains strong language, including swearing and slurs, descriptions of sexual violence, misuse of alcohol and drugs, death, grief and suicide.
