Students master sight loss awareness training

Students at Bangor university received sight loss awareness training this week.

They were all students on the master’s social work course.

The main aim of the training is to provide the knowledge and skills needed to provide suitable support to people living with visual impairment.

The other aims of the training are to ensure that the attendees -

  • feel better equipped to work confidently with individuals who have a visual impairment.
  • Greater appreciation of the diverse needs of blind or partially sighted individuals.
  • Better understanding of different conditions and their impact on an individual's daily life.
  • Has basic guiding skills to support visually impaired individuals.
  • Has knowledge of local and national services to support visually impaired individuals.

There was a very favourable response and feedback to the training which was also practical and purposeful.

The students said that they benefited greatly from the training and learned many elements that will be of great help to them.

The North Wales Society of the Blind offers similar awareness training courses to any organisation, company, society etc who want to know more about working with people living with visual impairment.
