Sun shines through on Rhyd Ddu to Llyn y Gader circular walk

27 walkers and three guide dogs joined our walk – a circular route from Rhyd-Ddu to Llyn y Gader.

The length of the walk was 6.5km (4 miles) mainly on firm ground.

We started the walk at Rhyd-Ddu railway station and aimed up along the path in the direction of Yr Wyddfa.

The temperature was around 12 degrees at the start with relatively low clouds preventing the sun from shining.

We had our lunch sitting on the rocks near the stone sign showing the path from Rhyd-Ddu towards Yr Wydddfa.

Then we began our descent back towards the main A4085 road between Waunfawr and Beddgelert.

The path showed signs of erosion in parts where the water running off the mountains had caused damage.

We walked down the mountain and reached the road between Waunfawr and Beddgelert, crossing it as well as the Welsh Highland Railway line to reach the Lôn Gwyrfai path.

We were warmed by the sun’s rays as we walked around Llyn y Gader and were amazed by the reflections caused by the sun's rays.

The traces of the Gadair Wyllt slate quarry could be seen and information boards showed the birds and ducks that visit the lake from time to time.

We returned along the Sarn Gul towards the car park from where we had started, with everyone having enjoyed themselves immensely and looking forward to the next trip.
