Taith Gerdded i Rhyd Ddu
A lovely walk in Rhyd Ddu - and hearing the cuckoo sing
A large group of club members joined the latest walk to Rhyd Ddu - where we heard the cuckoo singing.
A bus from Dilwyn's Coaches Bethesda came to collect the walkers from the North Wales Society of the Blind centre in Bangor on Wednesday morning and picked up the rest from the Morrisons bus stop, Caernarfon.
Some of the walkers had come from Llandudno and Llan Ffestiniog and some were with their guide dogs.
The walk to Snowdonia National Park had been organised by Mark Roberts and led by Peter Evison.
The walk was just over four miles long but more of a challenge than our recent walks.
We were out for about three and a half hours including a half hour stop for lunch.
The journey began in the Rhyd Ddu station car park before following the first mile up yr Wyddfa path (a climb of around 400 feet from Rhyd Ddu).
We enjoyed the fresh air and the magnificent view towards the Aran.
After lunch we headed down the new Beddgelert path to the edge of Coedwig Beddgelert Forest before returning to Rhyd Ddu past Llyn y Gadar.
Before long we had crossed the bridge back to the Rhyd Ddu car park and to the bus.
One of the walkers, Barry, said: "I've really enjoyed the walk today. It's good that it's been a bit more challenging. Of course, the weather has been perfect. I managed well with my guide dog.
“I like to go on various walks. It's much nicer to go cross-country rather than along the roads."
Eurwyn said: “It was nice to go off road. The reason I go is because I lost my wife who was also a member of the walking club. One of the members asked me to join them and I enjoy going. It takes you out of the house. You get a bit of fresh air and it's good for your mental health."
David added: “It was a very nice walk and having the opportunity to go somewhere different. I would never have been able to find this walk myself. It's also nice to chat with people."
The photos show the members of Clwb Cerdded Eryri Walking Club at the start and finish of the walk at Rhyd Ddu railway station.
Other photos show members of the Club walking along the route.
Pictures also show the scenery near Llyn y Gader, Rhyd Ddu.
The North Wales Society of the Blind is very grateful to the volunteers who guide the walkers on the walks. Without their kind help we would not be able to arrange the walks.
