Top tips and preparations for your holiday
Where do you like going on holiday?
We asked our members if being blind or living with a sight loss is a barrier to going on holiday.
We asked you to share your advice on do's and don'ts before going and during your holidays.
Anthony Jones, who lives with sight loss, and his wife Tracy, from Caernarfon, sent us these tips which appear in the notes in this photograph which have been translated here.
- The importance of doing your homework about the country/area/hotel.
- A travel agency can be of great help. Our local company, Teithiau Menai Travel, Caernarfon have been fantastic in planning and in giving us relevant information.
- Use of Apps e.g YouTube to get people's opinions. Being able to see if the area is safe, flat etc.
- Show the white cane at the airport and lots of help is available. Also in busy places like London Underground.
- Some travel companies bring a safety kit to your airline seat so that you can feel it and know exactly where the life jacket is etc.
- It is possible to ask the hotel to keep the same dinner table close to the buffet. It is also possible to ask for a sunbed close to the safest place to enter the swimming pool.
