Views, castle and goats – an interesting walk around Llanberis

21 walkers joined our walk around the village of Llanberis, amidst the splendour of the mountains of Eryri.

Eurwyn Thomas, one of the club's volunteers, led the walk around his home village.

It was a circuit of about 4 miles along established tracks in the main.

We met up at the car park near the 'Llafn y Cewri' statue at 11:00am.

Walking partly around Llyn Padarn, we headed towards the Welsh Slate Museum and Llyn Padarn Railway where there picnic tables and toilets.

The Museum has just closed its premises, however, while work is carried out over the next two years.

This is where we had our lunch break while enjoying the sounds and witnessing the smokey smells from the train passing along the nearby track.

After lunch we continued our walk along the shores of Llyn Padarn and to the closed former Dinorwig Quarry Hospital.

We were all surprised after coming across a herd of wild goats that had come down from the mountains to eat foliage and the greenery around us.

Although their horns looked threatening, they were more interested in feasting on the foliage than in attacking us, thankfully.

Then we aimed towards Dolbadarn Castle which is a Grade 1 listed building and an early 13th century Welsh castle built by Llywelyn the Great.

We finished the walk by returning to the starting point.

Note: Snowdonia Walking Club's Christmas dinner and annual party will be held at Bethesda Rugby Club on Wednesday, December 4.

The menu and details will be shared in due course.
