Eryri Walking Club - Capel Curig to Ogwen Cottage on 17 July - Cancelled
Notice of our next walk, Wednesday, July 17, 2024
Capel Curig to Bwthyn Ogwen (Ogwen Cottage)
Update: Capel Curig route is cancelled. The trip is still going ahead to Llyn Elsi, Betws-y-Coed.
For our July walk, we will be returning to the county of Conwy, retracing our steps on a walk we did just after coming out of the Covid lockdown, a walk which was suggested as it was one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all that came along on the day.
Our walk will take in part of Section 13 of the Slate Trail from Capel Curig to Ogwen Cottage, a distance of just over 5 miles. The trail runs adjacent to Afon Llugwy and the A5 taking us through Nant y Benglog which is the narrow valley between Capel Curig and Llyn Ogwen.
We will break for lunch at Gwern Gof Isaf – a farm where there are picnic tables and toilets at the camp site which the farmer has kindly given us permission to use.
There may be some muddy stretches on the way depending on how much rainfall there has been leading up to the day, therefore appropriate footwear is advised.
There are toilets at the beginning of the walk and at Ogwen Cottage at the end.
The North Wales Society of the Blind will arrange a coach which will leave the Society’s office at 10:30am. It will collect us from Ogwen Cottage at 3:15pm for our return travel to arrive in Bangor at around 3:45pm. The coach will also pick up walkers in Bethesda opposite the football ground at 10:45am.
We are always looking for new places to go, so if you have any ideas about new routes or perhaps a personal favourite walk then please let us know. We are more than happy to join a couple of volunteers to explore any possible route suggestions.
We will postpone the trip in the event of bad weather. If we need to make a decision to cancel, we will let you know by email and text by 6pm on the evening before the walk. Could you please respond to this email and include a mobile number where we can send text messages.
It is important that if you intend joining us then you let Bethan know as soon as possible so we can organise the appropriate size coach.
Can you please respond to this email and answer the following questions as soon as possible.
1. Will you be joining us on the walk?
2. Is there anyone coming with you?
3. Do you need a sighted guide volunteer?
4. What is your mobile phone number?
5. Where will you be meeting the group?
